Sedation Dentistry is most commonly known as "Laughing Gas". It is a safe and
effective sedative agent that is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a
small nose mask that helps you relax. It is commonly used on children in a
dental office.
Sedation Dentistry is one good treatment option your dentist may offer to help
make you more easy and comfortable during dental procedures. It is not
intended to put you to sleep with Sedation Dentistry. Under the influence of
Sedation Dentistry, you will be able to hear and respond to any requests or
directions the dentist may have.
You are asked to breathe normally through your nose mask, and within a
couple of minutes you should start to feel the effects of the laughing gas. You may feel light-headed or a tingling in your arms and legs. Some
people say their arms and legs feel heavy. Ultimately, you should feel
calm, comfortable and free of dental anxiety. The effects of Sedation Dentistry
last as long as the mask is on and they wear off soon after the mask is
removed. Recovery from laughing gas is very short and needs only 10-15 minutes.
At Care Dental Clinic our dentists and staff are trained to use laughing gas. Check with your dentist about whether Sedation Dentistry would be a good
option for you.
